Important Information about Airport Transfers

Trafalgar offers courtesy transfers from Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) Rome Airport to the hotel on the scheduled arrival day ONLY. The Transfer departure times are 9.30am, 12.30pm and 3pm sharp. These are the times the coach departs the airport. You will need to arrive a liitle before these times in order to get the coach at the specified time.

After collecting your luggage, please meet the Trafalgar Airport Host after customs inside Terminal 3, at Meeting point 4. Look for the column with the green sign, inside Terminal 3 as shown in the image. If you arrive into Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 please make your way to Terminal 3 and to meeting point number 4. If you have difficulty locating your Trafalgar Airport Host please call European Guest Services +44 207 620 8900.

If you should arrive outside of these times and you have not purchased a private transfer, then please make your own way to the hotel at your own expense. If you take a taxi, please ensure that it is an official white taxi from the rank just outside the Terminal building. Be careful of hawkers offering you a taxi that is not at the taxi rank, they are a scam, so please be careful. The cost of an official taxi from the airport to an inner city hotel is approximately 55.00 Euro. There are no refunds for unused transfers including when due to flight delays or missed flight connections.

If you’re arriving on one of the early transfers, please note that your room may not be ready straight away. You're very welcome to ask at reception if it’s available earlier—sometimes you might get lucky! 😊

In the meantime, you’ll find lounge chairs in the reception area where you can relax, freshen up, or catch a quick snooze while you wait.

🇮🇹 Arriving Early in Rome? Here’s What to Do!

If you’re arriving a day or two early in Rome, here are my top recommendations for things to explore before our tour officially begins. These are independent activities, so rest assured — you won’t be doubling up or retracing any steps during our trip!

🛺 Getting Around
The best and easiest way to see the sights from our hotel is by Uber or taxi. While public buses are available, they can be tricky to navigate and are known for pickpocketing risks. For peace of mind and convenience, taxis or Uber are your best bet — and they’re reasonably priced too!

🌟 Make the Most of Your Time
This might be your only time in the Eternal City, so make it count! Rome is bursting with treasures — from hidden piazzas and ancient ruins to charming cafés and unforgettable views. Every extra hour here is worth it.

Piazza Venezia and Capitoline Hill

Piazza Venezia, Rome's answer to Times Square, features Italy's grandest monument, affectionately dubbed 'the wedding cake.' Ascend the Michelangelo-designed staircase to Capitoline Hill, where you'll find exquisite museums and a breathtaking view of the Roman Forum

Castel St Angelo

A fortress turned papal refuge, turned museum — Castel Sant'Angelo is nearly 1,900 years old and absolutely worth a visit. You can walk the full circuit of the ramparts, explore atmospheric corridors and spiral staircases, and climb all the way to the rooftop terrace for some of the best panoramic views over Rome and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Fans of Angels and Demons will recognize it instantly — the final scenes were filmed here, and the secret elevated passageway to the Vatican still exists!

Whether you're a history lover, a photographer, or just want to soak up epic views and stories, this is a fantastic place to pass a few hours.

Trastevere

Tucked away on the west bank of the Tiber, Trastevere is Rome’s most atmospheric neighborhood—a maze of ochre-washed alleyways, shuttered windows, and ivy-draped façades. Here, the pace slows: locals linger over espresso in sun-dappled piazzas, trattorias spill onto cobblestone streets, and the golden light of dusk turns every corner into a postcard.

Unlike the grandiosity of central Rome, Trastevere offers intimacy and texture. You’ll find 12th-century mosaics in Santa Maria in Trastevere, laundry strung between buildings, and the clink of wine glasses from centuries-old enotecas. At night, the neighborhood pulses with energy, yet retains the soul of a lived-in village.

It’s the Rome of everyday beauty—less polished, more poetic.

Love to Shop?
If shopping is your thing, Rome has some fantastic streets to explore:

Via Cola di Rienzo – A great mix of well-known brands, boutiques, and cafes in the Prati district, close to the Vatican. A local favourite and a little less touristy.
Via del Corso – The main shopping artery in the historic centre. It runs from Piazza Venezia to Piazza del Popolo and is lined with popular high street stores.
Via dei Condotti – For luxury lovers, this is the spot. Just off the Spanish Steps, it’s home to high-end designer boutiques like Gucci, Prada, and Valentino.
